One small part of the Christmas story in Michigan's Great Southwest that has been ongoing for some time will mark its ten-year milestone this year…and despite some major changes for the key player it's still alive and well, but could use a little extra boost this year.

Ten years ago, Yoga Instructor Maria Rosner set out ahead of the holiday season in search of a group needing some help during the Christmas season. She approached the Safe Shelter in Benton Harbor and in short order the Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program was born. Every Christmas since then, Maria and her yoga students have been donating presents and gift cards to benefit families affected by domestic violence and sexual abuse. Moms and kids were identified each year by Reshella Hawkins, who also directs the Emergency Shelter, according to Maria.

Even though Maria moved to Chicago a few years ago, she still visits Southwest Michigan regularly and has never lost touch with the amazing yoga community here. The Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program continues to provide presents and monetary assistance to families in need, but this year the campaign has gone electronic.

Maria has established a GoFundMe campaign for the Adopt-A-Family Holiday effort, with the goal of raising $1,000.00. As of this afternoon, Sunday, December 11th, they have successfully raised nearly half that goal, but could use your help.
