BH School Board Member Resigns

He has lived in Turkey and many other areas around the globe, and now retired U.S. Air Force Captain James F.A. Turner has resigned from the Benton Harbor Areas Schools Board of Education effective immediately with plans to leave the country.

Turner's resignation was submitted via e-mail dated last Thursday, November 17th, and takes effect immediately according to Superintendent Shelly Walker.

He had served on the school board for two years, and the board is now making plans to fill his position by screening applicants from interested parties who exhibit that interest on December 15th. All interested community members are asked to submit their letter of interest to the attention of Dylan Souza at 636 Pipestone Street, Benton Harbor, Michigan no later than 4pm on December 6th.

Dr. Shelly Walker, the school's Superintendent, says, "It’s been a privilege and honor to serve with such a fine and distinguished community member of Benton Harbor. We can’t thank him enough for the support and dedication he has provided to the district. We wish him all the best in his next set of endeavors.”

There has been no comment from Turner yet regarding his relocation outside of the country. He has been an active member of the Benton Harbor community for many years, including his service to Rotary, following his career service to the U.S. military.
