Visitors to downtown St. Joseph will earn a great mid-winter escape that affords them the chance to sample more than two dozen chili recipes from many of their favorite restaurants and diners along with some other competitors all battling to take home the Chili Pepper Award, or to win the hearts of the people at large.

Whether you like your chili mild or fiery hot, meat or chili-inspired desserts or hot beverages, you will find more than 20 ways to chase away the chill during the 5th Annual Downtown Chili Tour, presented by Zion Evangelical UCC, on Friday, January 27th. The event takes place from 5 until 8pm in St. Joseph's central business district downtown. Merchants and restaurants will offer samples of their favorite chili recipes in hopes of earning the People’s Choice Award determined by popular vote or the Chili Pepper Award which is determined by a panel of judges.

Brian Smith, the Interim Executive Director and Events Manager for St. Joseph Today says, “There is a suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 for a family of four or more.” He notes that “A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen.”

When you register, you will get a map of chili stop locations which you can turn in at the end of the night to vote for your favorite chili as well as be entered in a drawing for a $25 St. Joseph Today Gift Certificate good at more than 40 locations. The drawing will be held the next day, on Saturday, January 28th.
