If you have typically preferred watching movies at home because you love your recliner, the crew at Celebration! Cinema of Benton Harbor will soon match your seating comfort with the added bonus of digital projection and precision sound. They are about to retrofit the entire house with amazing new seating like you see in the photo above.
During a special holiday Preview Experience event last night, Celebration! Cinema announced they will soon introduce the newest advancement in luxury theatre seating to Benton Harbor/St Joseph movie-goers. The Grand Rapids-based company takes great pride in its history of first adoption and innovation, having been industry leaders with stadium seating, THX, state-of-the-art digital sound and projection, and the introduction of IMAX to central and West Michigan. The new theatre seats will be deluxe power recliners and have armrests that rise for a larger seat option.
Dan Rimpel is Genera Manager for Celebration! Cinema in Benton Harbor. He tells us, “These seats are going to redefine movie-going in this region.” He says, “Prepare to stretch out and relax, or curl up and get cozy. It’s the big screen experience with comfort exceeding any movie experience you’ve had.”
Celebration! Cinema has already introduced fully reclining seats to theatres in Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Muskegon to a very enthusiastic response. With the exception of D-Box seats, every seat in every auditorium will be converted to recliners, requiring a renovation of each auditorium.
The nearly $1.5 million upgrade investment will include nearly 1,000 recliners as well as other aesthetic comforts. The project will take place in phases so that the theatre can remain open for business. The theatre will lose a significant amount of current seating capacity due to the size of the recliners.
Rimpel notes, “Our reserved seating will be even more appealing and important to our guests, since we’ll lose 65-percent of seating capacity.”
Benton Harbor area Celebration! Cinema guests will get their first experience soon, with first auditoriums to be completed in early 2017. The seats are being manufactured and the timeline for installation will depend on the timeliness of production.
