Dozens of Jobs Coming to Lane Automotive

The more than $30-million project that has dramatically increased the footprint of an already massive Lane Automotive in Watervliet will also dramatically increase the workforce there. So much so that the company is hosting a sizable Job Fair this week in two segments at their showcase facility along I-94.

The Job Fair will begin on Thursday, August 4th, at 9am and run until 1pm in the first of two sessions, with a second round of applications being accepted between 3pm and 8pm at the sprawling center at I-94 and M-140 (8300 Lane Drive) in Watervliet.

The amazing company, a world-class supplier of performance parts and accessories for race cars, hot rods, trucks and off-road vehicles, has grown exponentially over the years having started in 1964 in George Lane's garage. The already huge building sports a massive new addition of 214,500 square feet brings the new superstructure to just under 375,000 square feet under roof now.

In order to support the ongoing growth and expansion, Lane Automotive's HR team is seeking "self-motivated, responsible and hard-working talent in material handling, inventory control, order fulfillment, and receiving." Interested job seekers are invited to either of the two sessions on Thursday to study potential opportunities currently available, and the chance to learn more about working at Lane's Distribution Center. Human Resources personnel provided these guidelines for potential candidates:

  • You may complete an application prior to the Job Fair by using the online application (which is linked below) then print it and bring it with you, or by stopping in for a paper copy. We will also have applications available on the day of the event.
  • Candidates of all experience levels and industries are encouraged to attend.
  • Full-time and part-time employment opportunities are available.
  • A current resume is helpful.
  • Interviews will be conducted onsite (time permitting).

When the expansion project was first announced, Lane executives said that it would eventually create 138 new jobs in the area, bringing total employment at the facility to nearly 360 people. There was no immediate indication as to how many jobs will be filled as a result of this week's Job Fair. Consultant Cindy LaGrow successfully paved the way last year for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's green light on nearly $2-million in working training dollars to get new hires up to speed quickly on the technologies to operate the new facility.
