Former WHR Exec to Armstrong Board

The man who served Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool Corporation for nearly a decade has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. out of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, re-creating ties to SW Michigan in the process. Roy W. Templin, who is a former Chief Financial Officer for the appliance giant took a seat in the boardroom at Armstrong at mid-month following a stint as Chairman of the Board of Con-Way Incorporated which concluded when the company was acquired by XPO Logistics last year.

Templin was Vice President & Controller of Whirlpool for a year beginning in 2003 and promoted a year later to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at world headquarters on M-63 North where he served until retiring in 2012. Prior to his work with Whirlpool, Roy served as Vice President of Finance & Chief Accounting Officer at Kimball, International, the Jasper, Indiana office furniture manufacturer.

Templin also currently sits on the Board of Trustees of the Goldman Sachs Mutual Funds. His Chairmanship at Con-Way ran from 2014 to 2015 before XPO took over.

James O'Connor is Chairman of the Board at Armstrong. He says, "We are pleased to welcome Roy Templin to the Board of Directors of Armstrong World Industries. He brings valuable financial, manufacturing and management experience, and we look forward to working closely with him as a member of our board."

Armstrong World Industries, Inc. ( AWI ) is a global leader in the design and manufacture of innovative commercial and residential ceiling, wall and suspension system solutions. With 3,800 employees and fiscal 2015 revenues from ceiling operations in excess of $1.2 billion, AWI operates from a global manufacturing network of 24 facilities, including 9 plants dedicated to its WAVE joint venture. On April 1, 2016, AWI completed the separation of its legacy flooring business that now operates as Armstrong Flooring Inc., an independent, publicly-traded company. As a result of Templin's appointment, his ties to Michigan's Great Southwest are renewed in part because WAVE's joint venture team operates a key facility in Benton Harbor off of Paw Paw Avenue. That's a joint venture between Armstrong Tile and Worthington Steel Company, and manufactures the suspended ceiling gridwork for commercial and residential applications.
