Harbor Country Mfr Investing $5.1M

A local leader in precision machining and prototyping services for multiple industry sectors will invest more than $5-million in new equipment and facility improvements in New Troy thanks to a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and assistance from Cornerstone Alliance of Benton Harbor.

Vickers Engineering of New Troy, northeast of New Buffalo, has been awarded a $160,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant, thanks to attempts by North Carolina to steal the business away.

State Senator John Proos of St. Joseph congratulated the engineering team headed up by Matt Tyler for the hard work to get the grant especially in light of the substantial investment being made in Michigan's Great Southwest. Proos says, I am excited about this opportunity to see an outstanding Southwest Michigan business continue to provide world-class products for a wide range of industries including automotive and agricultural businesses." He adds, "With the help of this grant, Vickers Engineering plans to renovate a facility in Berrien County, invest $5.1-million in capital equipment and building improvements, and create more than 50 jobs for area workers."

Vickers was founded in 1970, and performs precision machining operations and prototyping to the automotive sector, as well as industries such as energy, defense and consumer products.

Proos calls the grant and the investment "Outstanding news for Berrien County and the entire Southwest Michigan region." He points out that such grants are extremely targeted and very competitive. He applauds everyone at Vickers Engineering for their dedication to the community and all of Michigan.

The Michigan Business Development Program is a business attraction and economic gardening tool of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation supported by the Michigan Strategic Fund.

Vickers has indicated that 53 additional workers will be hired as a result of the $5.1-million investment being made in New Troy.
