Lakeland PR Team Wins Major Award

The genius marketing decision to portray Lakeland Health physicians as artists and their patients as works of art — or better yet, as individual "masterpieces" — has paid off handsomely as word comes of a Silver victory in the 2016 Davey Awards competition. We're not sure if it came in a wood crate marked "fragile," but it's a pretty major award.

The Daveys are judged from nationwide entries and overseen by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts (AIVA). That's a more than 700-member strong organization of leading professionals from an array of disciplines in the visual arts who are dedicated to embracing progress and the evolving nature of traditional and interactive media.

Lakeland's entry was one of nearly 4,000 from every state in the union and several foreign nations, making the Silver victory a truly remarkable one. Lakeland entered their video presentation "da Vinci Masterpiece" in the competition. As Christopher Johnson, Senior Video Production Specialist for Lakeland Health, says, "We were inspired by the name of the surgical system when developing the concept for the campaign as “da Vinci” calls to mind ideas of art, beauty, and innovation.”  He adds, “By portraying our physicians as artists and their patients as works of art, or 'masterpieces,' we aimed to create a visually-evocative piece that would convey the da Vinci’s unique surgical capabilities to our community and inspire them to seek out robotic-assisted surgery as an alternative to more traditional surgical options.”

Linda Day is Executive Director of the Davey Awards. She says, “On behalf of the Davey Awards and our Academy, we want to applaud this year’s entrants and winners for their dedication and commitment to their craft.” She notes, “The work entered into this year's Daveys portrays the smart approach to creativity that embodies capabilities and talents from across the world.”

In April of 2016, the Lakeland Health Board of Directors approved the purchase of a third da Vinci Xi surgical robot, making Lakeland the only health system in Michiana with the most advanced Xi technology. The new robot replaced the Si system at the Center for Outpatient Services in an effort to further enhance the outpatient surgery experience. Robotic surgical systems are also located at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph and Lakeland Hospital, Niles. To date, a total of 15 certified robotic surgeons have performed 2,044 da Vinci surgeries.
