Launching Hope for Safe Shelter

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month, and here on the home front, the crew at Child & Family Services of Southwest Michigan hopes to see lots of people at a family fun event designed to celebrate survivors of domestic violence in Berrien County.

Launching Hope is the name of the event and it is slated to take place on Saturday, October 8th from 1pm until 7pm at Nimby Pond, located at 11470 Hills Road in Buchanan. It's a family fun day that includes a Pumpkin Chunking Challenge, a pumpkin decoratin contest, bean bag toss, children's games, live music, food, beverages and other activities. The price of admission is just $5 per person, but additional charges may apply for participation in certain activities.

New this year is the opportunity for groups to build a catapult and compete against other teams to win the Pumpkin Chunking Challenge for distance and accuracy. Team rules and applications are available online at www.cfsswmi.org or www.launchinghope.org and must be submitted by September 15.

Because October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month, Child & Family Services hopes to use this event as an opportunity for the community to show their support of survivors of domestic violence, increase awareness in the community, and raise funds for Safe Shelter for Domestic Violence.

CFSSWMI originated locally in 1891 and is celebrating 125 years of service to the local communities. Safe Shelter for Domestic Violence, a program of CFSSWMI since 2008, provides safety and empowerment to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault by advocating for justice and equality while promoting diversity.
