Lemon Creek Wines Garner Awards

An estate winery in Berrien Springs with a solid reputation for producing some of the Midwest's most recognized wines, is continuing to garner attention on the world stage through recent big awards in national and international competitions. Lemon Creek's trophy case continues to burst at the seams with new recognition.

Knowing that good wines begin in the vineyard, Lemon Creek’s are 100% estate bottled, allowing them to consistently produce award winning wines. With 2013 being an amazing year for wine grapes here in Southwest Michigan, Lemon Creek has already assembled an impressive list of awards.

The 2013 Meritage earned high accolades at the International East Meets West Competition earlier this year with Double Gold, Best of Class, and Best Red Wine.  In addition, it was awarded a Gold medal at the San Francisco International Wine Competition, and at the San Diego Wine & Spirits Challenge it garnered Silver.

Another top winner in San Francisco was the 2013 Cabernet Franc Reserve. Scoring 90 out of 100 points, it was awarded a Gold medal in the blind tasting by an esteemed panel of judges. In addition to the Gold, the Cabernet Franc has won four Silver medals from International Eastern Wine Competition, Taster’s Guild International Wine Competition, Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, and Critic’s Challenge scoring 88 points.

Lemon Creek boasts the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the state of Michigan and winemaker Jeff Lemon is proud of its showing against the nation’s top wineries. The awards for the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Barrel Select shows Lemon Creek’s ability to grow world class wine grapes and the winemaker’s skill to care for that wine to make it stand out from Cabs around the world.

At the Critic’s Challenge International Wine & Spirits Challenge, Barrel Select was awarded Platinum. Platinum awards are reserved for the very best wines of the competition, wines that exhibit profound qualities as determined by the judges. Out of a score of 100 it earned a score of 95. Also entered at the San Diego Wine & Spirits Challenge, where wines mainly from California, Washington, Italy and Australia compete, it won a Gold.

The newest star varietal to Lemon Creek’s lineup is Malbec which won Gold, scoring 91 out of 100, at the Critic’s Challenge. It was also awarded Silvers from International Eastern Wine Competition and Taster’s Guild International Wine Competition.

Lemon Creek's 2013 Merlot Reserve has been awarded with four Silver medals from International Eastern Wine Competition, Taster’s Guild International Wine Competition, Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, and San Francisco International Wine Competition.

All these award winners, as well as many other red and white wines with several awards, will be available for sampling at their tasting rooms in Berrien Springs and Grand Haven, Michigan. More information may be obtained by clicking through to the Lemon Creek website at the address below:
