Major Expansion at SERVPRO

In the 20 years since Deb & Doug Popp converted what started out to be a commercial and residential carpet cleaning company into the Berrien County restoration franchise well known as SERVPRO, the growth has been absolutely exponential.

Launched originally in the 1980s and 90s as a carpet cleaning operation, and advancing into full-on restoration work, the Popp family was approached by the national team at SERVPRO seeking to establish a solid foundation in the region, and a deal was struck.

Finding property in Benton Harbor, and signing the franchise agreement, SERVPRO of Berrien County officially opened up shop in November of 1996. They found a large market for clean up and restoration work for commercial and residential properties impacted by fire, water and mold damages.

The business has continued to grow every year to the point that they were bursting at the seams at their Milton Street property in Benton Harbor and acquired the former Industrial Pattern Works building next door and remodeled that additional 7,400 square feet into a new modern facility operating three full divisions for the growing company.

On Friday, employees of the company celebrated their 20th Anniversary with an open house to show off their newly renovated and dramatically expanded facilities on Milton to friends, clients, customers, vendors and members of the Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce community on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony in front of their large Disaster Recovery Team unit.

SERVPRO of Berrien County has now grown to a team of more than two dozen full time, industry-trained employees. As an emergency response provider, SERVPRO operates 24/7 year round regardless of time of day or day of year.

The bright, newly expanded facility on Milton now houses not only their Fire/Water/Mold Restoration Unit, they also maintain operations there for their Construction Division which handles insurance work for residential and commercial customers alike, and a new Esporta Laundry Division designed to handle bulk cleaning for smoke and category 3 water-damaged soft goods.

As the company marks its 20-year milestone celebration, they continue to pledge to restore damages from water, smoke, fire and mold to a condition that would make it appear "Like it Never Even Happened!" Home base for SERVPRO of Berrien County is 1562 Milton in Benton Harbor, and you can reach them by phone at 269-925-6841.
