Friends, family members, and dog lovers everywhere can finally close another chapter in the tragic death of Benton Harbor businessman David "Krockett" Krieger following the conclusion of two week long trial in St. Joseph, when Roy Thompson was found guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting late last year.

A Berrien County jury that had listened to hours of emotional testimony from both the prosecution and defense teams in the case deliberated for some nine hours before returning the verdict Thursday evening. Thompson faces life in prison as a result of the finding, or whatever length of time that is arrived at when sentencing takes place a month from now. Sentencing has been set for August 1st.

Krieger, who worked for Michiana Supply on Milton Street in Benton Harbor, was gunned down on the morning of December 11th, while defending a dog that had been kicked by Thompson. Thompson then pulled a gun on Krieger and shot him before running through nearby neighborhoods and was eventually found hiding in a home not far away.

In addition to the second-degree conviction, Thompson was also found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was, however, acquitted by the jury, of two counts of assault with the intent to commit murder, having been accused of firing shots at Krieger's brother, Stephen, and a co-worker, Sam Shade.

Michiana Supply is a service provider to the industrial and agricultural sectors of the community that has been located at 1502 Milton Street for nearly 40-years.

The jury was comprised of eight women and four men, and security at the courthouse was described as very tight with jurors escorted by police to their vehicles at the end of the day. Their verdict was returned at 6:30pm last evening.

While Thompson awaits his sentencing fate, he remains lodged in the Berrien County Jail in St. Joseph.
