New Chef, New Donation for Mosaic

The Mosaic On the Move Capital Campaign to relocate services is becoming a perpetual motion machine. With new donations arriving on the doorstep and a new Chef being announced for the soon-to-be-relocated Mosaic Cafe, the momentum is building nicely — but the work is not done yet.

Mosaic Christian Community Development Association (CCDA), a 501 (c3) non-profit organization, operating in Benton Harbor since 2009 is excited to announce that the Mosaic On the Move Capital Campaign has raised more than $475,000 since launching in early October.  A recent donation of $125,000 from the Upton Foundation has propelled Mosaic forward.  Mosaic President/founder Brian D. Bennett says, “The support of our community with Mosaic on the Move has been nothing short of miraculous. We are so encouraged to know that our community believes in our mission and the work we do day in and day out to help residents take steps forward in life.”

The total Mosaic on the Move campaign goal is to raise $850,000 to relocate the Mosaic Retail Store, Jobs for Life Program (JFL) and Harbor Shine enterprises to its own building at 200 Paw Paw Avenue as well as to the newly purchased 325 Main Street location for Café Mosaic.

In addition to the campaign update Bennet says Café Mosaic has a new chef and manager Sam Hybels. Sam comes to the Café with a passion for people, great fresh food, and creating community through a common table. Sam has spent decades in the food industry including time as a restaurant owner and executive chef.

Café Mosaic will continue to open and operate in its current location at 510 West Main Street while preparing to open the new café in February of 2017. The new Café will allow for a new and expanded menu, outside seating, a potential drive thru, and additional catering and job training opportunities.

The Mosaic CCDA mission is to “create opportunities for steps to greatness as we prepare people for further education, life, and work while sharing Christ’s love.” Mosaic’s first priority is the residents of Benton Harbor and then the surrounding region as the organization endeavors to expand its impact through their social enterprises and Jobs for Life. Bennett says this is an exciting time for the Mosaic Organization as this funding will allow the organization to reach more residents in the Benton Harbor Community and help to transform more lives.
