If you’ve ever wondered why there’s always a line waiting to get into Silver Beach Pizza at the Amtrak train station in St. Joseph, or why the people in that line will wait sometimes up to two hours to get a table inside, perhaps the folks at Tripping.com have your answer. The “world’s largest search engine for vacation rentals” has crowned Silver Beach Pizza as the Best Pizza in all of Michigan.

The website last month assembled a list of the Best Pizza in Every U.S. State as a part of their America The Beautiful Series. Only one pizza place in every state in the union earned its way onto that list…and in Michigan…it’s Southwest Michigan’s own Silver Beach Pizza with it’s view of the Whirlpool Compass Rose Fountain and the sands of Silver Beach beyond that copped the top honors.

Hoosier fans just over the state line in Indiana have to wend their way all the way to Indianapolis for that state’s finest at Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza, while our Illinois friends who frequent this area from the Chicagoland region will find their top pizza at Lou Malnati’s of Chicago.

Tripping.com hosts data on more than 8-million vacation homes and short-term rentals in their database and routinely posts “best of” lists for travelers in search of cool things to see and do and places to visit, dine, and explore.

Their entry on the Best Pizzas in America says that with a countless variety of toppings and numerous crust variations, pizza is one of the few food items that opens up an infinite number of culinary possibilities. Moreover, they say, it’s worth noting that the style and flavor of pizza varies drastically depending on geography and regional taste. New York City, they point out, is renowned for its hand-tossed, thin crust pizzas, whilst Chicago embraces the deep-dish pizza that inspires some critics to argue against its legitimacy as a pizza.

Tripping.com writes say that these days, plain, all-purpose or bread flour just doesn’t make the cut anymore for some consumers. To cater to health-conscious patrons on a gluten-free or low-carb diet, pizzerias have innovated recipes to include pizza crusts consisting of whole wheat flour or vegetables such as cauliflower and zucchini. Toppings, they note, are…on the other hand…the elements that truly add complexity to a pizza.

The site offers no rationale or argument or even a photo or description of each state’s winning pizza. They don’t even offer a street address for the winners, just the city in which the pizza place is anchored, assuming that if it’s good enough to be the best in the state most people will be able to point you to the joint.

Each state’s entry link on the list does, however, take you to a listing and map showcasing all of that community’s available vacation and short-term rentals, as well as a brief description of the local community and its amenities.

If you’d like to see who’s number one in every state in the union, click the link below and add a few to your bucket list. Meanwhile, with another badge of honor on its brag board, the crew at Silver Beach Pizza can likely expect a few more visitors thanks to their newest accolade on the world wide web.

This culinary notoriety adds to Tabor Hill Winery & Restaurant’s victory last month as Top 5 Winery Restaurant in America by USA Today.
