Taking a Better Day to Restock the Pantry

A couple of diverse partners in the greater Niles area are calling on everyone to build a better community literally shoulder to shoulder next weekend in a multi-faceted event at the Niles Riverwalk Amphitheater Park designed to help restock the Salvation Army pantry headed into the fall and winter seasons.

Organizers from the Niles Four Flags Chamber of Commerce, the Niles Philadelphia Seventh Day Adventist Church and other community groups are teaming up next Saturday afternoon for "A Better Day Peace Concert, to build a better community. Those from the public planning to attend are being encouraged to lend a helping hand by bringing a can — as in canned goods to help restock the pantry for the Salvation Army.

Event organizers have extended their hands to partner with the office of the mayor, law enforcement, Niles Community Schools, the Salvation Army, the Niles City Council, the NAACP, and area churches to take action at this end of summer event. In fact, anyone interested in singing in the community-wide youth choir is asked to contact Sharon Cochran at scochran1249@yahoo.com, Christine Mwenya at christine@thisisrelevant.cc, or Ramona Minisee at miniseelow@aol.com.

Everybody else is being asked to mark their calendars, bring a lawn chair, a flashlight, a bottle of water, bug spray, and most importantly of all…food items for the Salvation Army Food Pantry. The event gets underway at 6:30pm next Saturday evening, September 24th as participants avail themselves of the chance to share, sing, get answers, meet and speak to city leaders, get involved, and assist the Salvation Army.

Besides restocking the pantry, organizers say that with all of the unrest rising in our world today, they are hopeful that by standing shoulder-to-shoulder to build a better community everybody wins.
