Whirlpool Adds to Sustainability Achievements

Against the backdrop of ongoing commitment to world-class innovation in concert with a never-ending drive toward sustainability, Whirlpool Corporation has achieved certification on select clothes dryers today by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, as meeting the new sustainability standards. It's a huge feather in the cap of everyone from the design engineers to the sales teams at the Benton Harbor-base appliance giant as their models are among the first to attain that high standard.

Now matching sets of washers and dryers that both meet AHAM standards are available to consumers. Certified washer and dryer sets include top-load and front-load washer styles, paired with gas, electric, and heat pump dryer models.

Maureen Sertich is Sustainability Lead for Whirlpool North America. She says, “We are proud to extend our commitment and leadership to sustainability by including these clothes washers and dryers to the list of appliances certified by the AHAM Sustainability Standards.” She adds, “With an historical focus on increasing the energy efficiency of Whirlpool Corporation products for more than 46 years, these standards allow us to concentrate on continuous improvements that help reduce the environmental impact of our products at all stages of their life cycle.”

Those Whirlpool Brand dryer models among the first to receive certification include:

  • WED8500DW/C –  Whirlpool 8.8 cu. ft. Cabrio® High-Efficiency Electric Steam Dryer (paired with WTW8500DW0, DC0, DR0 – Whirlpool 5.3 cu. ft. Cabrio® High-Efficiency Top Load Washer with Active Spray technology)
  • WED9290FW – 7.4 cu. ft. HybridCare™ True Ventless Heat Pump Dryer (paired with WFW92HEFW – Whirlpool 4.5 cu. ft. Front Load Washer with Load & GoTM Bulk Dispenser)
  • WED7990FW – 7.4 cu. ft. HybridCare™ True Ventless Heat Pump Dryer (paired with WFW75HEFW – Whirlpool 4.5 cu. ft. Front Load Washer with Precision Dispense)

Whirlpool Corporation announced certifications for sustainability standards for refrigerators in 2012, clothes washers in 2013 and cooking appliances in 2015.

The AHAM Sustainability Standards are unique in that they consider a broad range of product attributes during the lifecycle of the product, including energy and water efficiencies, manufacturing, materials, and end of life considerations.
