Following “Our Town Benton Harbor,” WNIT Premieres “Our Town St. Joseph”

There are thousands of stories about the people and places around town, and fortunately for us there are people who enjoy the thrill of the hunt for those very stories so that they can bring them to the light of day. More than 50 such stories have recently been chronicled and captured for history and are now being shared by our favorite Public Television station.

Crew members from WNIT Public Television out of South Bend recently visited several dozen people and places in both St. Joseph and Benton Harbor to capture their stories in order to showcase them in the station’s great line of “Our Town” programming.

“Our Town Benton Harbor” debuted during Thanksgiving week while I was on vacation, and I was not able to be there for the premiere showing despite my invitation to do so as a long time member of the Board of Directors of the station.

I was, however, able to make last week’s screened premiere of “Our Town St. Joseph,” when General Manager Greg Giczi and Senior Producer Brenda Bowyer shared the hour-long piece at the St. Joseph High School Auditorium. It is a remarkably well done piece that shares 25 total stories from world-class photographer Joshua Nowicki to Gayle Olson’s tale of Smooth Jazz at Sunset.

Additional stories of the SW Michigan Makers Trail, Blossomtime, the St. Joseph Farmers Market, Silver Beach Pizza, Lazy Ballerina Winery, the North Pier Lighthouse and many others populate the fast-moving program and you can see it for yourself when it makes its broadcast debut tomorrow night, Monday, December 4th at 8pm with an encore airing at 9:30pm.

I will join Cindy Mccraner tomorrow night as on-air hosts of the premiere and afford you the opportunity to obtain DVD copies of Our Town programs either for yourself or as Christmas gifts or keepsakes for others in your life among those who share the same love of our community or who used to live here but no longer do, and so on.

Check it out…WNIT Public Television, tomorrow night, Monday, December 4th, at 8pm and again at 9:30 as an encore.
