I&M Earns “Environmental Champion” Designation for 2018

Their ongoing drive for alternative energy sources has earned Indiana Michigan Power company designation as a 2018 Environmental Champion from a Cogent Reports study by Market Strategies International.

I&M’s commitment to greener energy places them in the rare role of being one of just 43 utility companies in the entire nation that have been given that distinction. To become an Environmental Champion, a utility needs to demonstrate to customers its dedication to supporting the environment by promoting clean energy, empowering consumption management, aiding environmental causes, boosting environmentally friendly vehicles and buildings, and looking for ways to protect the environment.

Toby Thomas is Indiana Michigan Power Company’s President & Chief Operation Officer. He says, “This award is a further example of the commitment we have made to bring all of our customers what they want – safe, reliable and affordable energy to their homes and businesses that use our growing emission-free energy resources.” Thomas adds, “I&M continues to listen to our customers and be a leader in the transition to more diverse energy options that reduce our environmental footprint.”

According to the Cogent Reports study, utility customers show support for renewable energy sources. As the hometown energy provider, I&M has listened and taken action.

An important part of I&M’s transitioning generation mix is creating affordable and convenient energy efficiency programs for customers. I&M currently has several innovative energy saving programs, including IM Home and rebates on LED lighting. For details, see ElectricIdeas.com

In 2017, two-thirds of the energy generated by I&M came from emission-free sources. Those sources of generation are the Cook Nuclear Plant at Bridgman, four solar generation plants, including one at Watervliet, six hydroelectric plants and three wind generation plants. I&M has enough renewable resources to power more than 100,000 homes.
