If you’re a member of the Makers Trail Flight Crew and planning to spend your Spring Break week in a sort of “staycation” this year on the home front, you’ll do well to hit the Makers Trail and finish up your Flight Crew Passport while you have the chance because they’ve announced the official deadline to claim awards under the program and it’s the end of April

The Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council announced today that the deadline to claim rewards for its popular Makers Trail Flight Crew Passport program is April 30 by 5pm. Millicent Huminsky is Executive Director of the SWM Tourist Council and she tells us, “April 30th is the cutoff because we’ve included two tickets to the new Makers Trail Festival on June 9th in the tailgater package reward.” She points out, “This deadline will allow people to claim their tickets and make hotel reservations before the festival.”

The Makers Trail Flight Crew Passport program was introduced last fall to encourage tourists and local residents to visit the different wineries, breweries and distilleries in Berrien County. Passport holders qualify for rewards by collecting stickers from each of the different Makers Trail sites listed at MakersTrail.org. A total of 10 different stickers earns a Makers Trail Flight Crew t-shirt; a total of 20 different stickers qualifies for a Makers Trail Flight Crew hoodie; and a total of 30 different stickers earns a tailgater package (one per family) that includes a cooler, Makers Trail beverages, two glasses and two Makers Trail Festival tickets.

Huminsky says individuals can claim rewards by turning in or mailing their passports to either the Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council, 2700 Pipestone Rd., Benton Harbor, MI 49022 or to the St. Joseph Today Welcome Center, 301 State Street, St. Joseph, MI 49085. The t-shirt and hoodie are available at both sites for immediate pickup, or they can be mailed to qualifying passport holders. The tailgater package, however, must be claimed in-person at the Tourist Council.

Huminsky says, “The response to the Makers Trail Passport program has been incredible.” She notes, “At this time, passports are no longer available. But we will roll out a new passport program in the fall so visit our website later this summer for details.”
