FuzzyButz Costume Contest Returns

Michigan's Great Southwest is probably one of the most dog-friendly places on the globe, and my friends at FuzzyButz Pet Bakery in the heart of the central business district in downtown St. Joseph is just one excellent reason why.  Mary & Rick Schaut have generously donated their time, talent and treasure over the years to host the Annual Halloween Costume Contest for Dogs, and this year you're all invited inside with your four-legged friends.

It's pretty hard to miss FuzzyButz not only due to the sheer size of the quirky retailer, but also thanks to the whimsical display window that is a true-to-life "Dogs Playing Poker" rendition of the familiar velvet painting we've all seen at some point in our lives.  The shop at 306 State Street is a dog-lover's paradise with hundreds of colorful and tasty treats for everyone's favorite pet.  It's also a cornucopia of all things dog related from leashes, coats and other clothing for your animals to dog-related gear for proud owners to wear as well.  The Schauts have an amazing wholesale trade as well, packaging and shipping treats to many other pet retailers across the Midwest and beyond, and selling over the Internet.

Back to the story at hand, however, as FuzzyButz welcomes costumed dogs on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm inside their spacious store on State Street across from the Dime Store.  No more standing out in the cold this year!  Additionally, the contest is being held as a part of St. Joseph Today's monthly celebration of "It's Finally Friday."  Participating merchants in that program will donate a portion of their sales that evening to fund a low cost neuter program for low income families, to be conducted at a later date.

The first 100 dogs who visit the FuzzyButz store that evening will be provided a free trick-or-treat bag.  As has become tradition, the costume contest will also include a children's contest and a separate adult costume contest, so get your coolest ideas together and stop by for a howling good time!
