The Night of a Thousand Lights

One of the most heartwarming nights on the town of the entire year takes place every November when the folks at St. Joseph Today extinguish the streetlights in favor of hundreds of luminaries lining the brick streets of the central business district.  We all have the chance to witness the candlelit beauty of the Victorian-era downtown on Friday, November 22nd this year when the organization celebrates the 19th Annual Luminary Festival presented by Cook Nuclear Plant/Indiana MIchigan Power.

The holiday season steps off basking in the warm glow of 1,000 luminary candles in white paper bags scattered through the downtown streets.  Lined up like a regiment of brightly lit soldiers, the luminaries escort visitors into a festive atmosphere for the entire family with refreshments, special prices and gift ideas galore from participating restaurants and shopkeepers.  A free horse-drawn trolley sponsored by the Frederick S. Upton Foundation will pick up riders from 4pm until 7pm at the corner of Elm & State Streets, weather permitting, offering a relaxing ride with a breathtaking view of the city all aglow.

The Festival will run from dusk until 9pm on that Friday evening and boasts a long list of participating stores and restaurants including:
