Upscale Pub Food Arrives in Buchanan

Laura & Dan O'Sullivan happened upon Jennifer & Lonnie Hoover in much the same way many of us find newfound friends in small-town America: watching their kids play Little League Baseball.  Sideline conversations also turned up a desire for something new and different close to home where they could meet for dinner with the family or even just date-night drinks.  Love for spending time with family and friends coupled with a healthy dose of hometown pride led the foursome to plan for and open up downtown Buchanan's newest restaurant.

Thus was born the Bucktown Tap at 259 E. Front Street in Buchanan.  Renovations of the building were launched last May.  Inside, hardwood floors, exposed duct-work and tin ceilings all work together to create a sophisticated yet casual atmosphere.  In season a picturesque patio will provide alfresco dining alongside McCoy Creek.  The restaurant officially opened for business on October 11th and awaits your visit soon.

The menu features what the two couples are calling upscale pub food, including appetizers, salads, burgers & sandwiches, with a blackboard menu offering seasonal items and special entrees.  By way of example, bacon lovers can find their fix with the Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers or the Bacon Dog.  The Vegetarian Scottish Eggs and Stuffed Mushrooms add additional flair to the ensemble.

All of the organic greens are grown locally at Green Spirit Farms in New Buffalo, and the fully-stocked bar includes local beer and wine options from Greenbush, Founder's, Bell's, Round Barn and Tabor Hill.  The "Sunday Funday Brunch" includes mimosas, Bloody Mary's and omelets.  A separate kids menu offers family-friendly options as well.

Laura and her husband Dan moved from Chicago to Buchanan eight years ago and she tells me, "Eating fresh and local food is something that's important to us.  We wanted a place that offered those options, in a fun fresh environment."

The two families are proud to put their mark on the growing downtown in Buchanan, especially so for Jennifer, the sole Buchanan native in the group.  She says, "It's been amazing to watch the revitalization of our downtown and the greater Buchanan area.  To be a part of that means a lot to me.  I can't wait for our family and friends to create some lasting memories here."  Jennifer and Lonnie are both Lake Michigan College grads and Jennifer is the daughter of longtime LMC supporters Liz & Lloyd Miller.

You'll find Bucktown Tap open for business Mondays and Thursdays from 4pm until 10pm, Fridays from 4pm until 1am, Saturdays from 11am until 1am and Sundays from 10am until 4pm.  You can follow them online at www.facebook.com/bucktowntap .

You'll find the new dining option at 259 E. Front Street, just west of the intersection of Red Bud Trail and Front Street downtown.  They are available by phone at 269-409-8464.  Congratulations one and all...and best of luck with your new venture.
