Prairie Real Estate Progress Continues

Peter Colovos is one of the most fascinating and focused individuals I have ever met, and his commercial real esate drive is becoming legendary for his outstanding quality and keen attention to detail.  You will never find anything the man does come up short of expectations in my experience. Rather, you will be wowed by his desire for perfection and authenticity.

Colovos is the man behind Prairie Real Estate Group with anchors in three key Midwest cities: Chicago, Grand Rapids, and Benton Harbor. Prairie Real Estate Group is a commercial real estate firm focused on the redevelopment of historically significant buildings throughout the Midwest for the purpose of leasing great space to quality tenants.

Here in Michigan's Great Southwest, we've been treated to his attention to detail in the form of the Entergy Center at 330 W. Main Street in Benton Harbor.  Originally constructed in the mid-1920's, Colovos and his crew acquired the space in 2005 and converted it into world class office space.

Having enjoyed that successful venture, Colovos shifted his focus to the amazing building next door at 376 W. Main.  Known for decades as the Saranac Building, named after its original occupant, the Saranac Machine Company, it too, dates back to the 20's.  Thanks to Colovos and his desire to play a major role in the renaissance of downtown Benton Harbor, that building is nearing completion as a multi-purpose structure that he has taken great care to preserve the unique historical elements on and replicate its original appearance.

The work began on creation of what is being called Saranac Flats late last spring to convert the building to a commercial center on the ground floor and loft-style apartments on the second floor. The apartments are scheduled to be available for rent in February of 2014, as work continues unabated at the historical site.

The transformation is creating 9,300 square feet of retail and commercial space on the ground floor and eight (8) loft-style apartments overhead.  Addtionally, Saranac Flats will feature amenities such as key-card access, an elevator, secure & covered parking, a private 24-hour fitness facility, professional management, 24-hr emergency maintenance, and a smoke free, pet friendly environment.  A variety of floor plans from one to two bedrooms are available featuring open concept floor plans, wall-to-wall windows, private balconies, stainless appliances, unique recycled-glass kitchen countertops, dishwashers, window treatments, washer/dryer, and cable and internet ready access.

The Saranac Flats building is just one of many projects undertaken by Colovos and Prairie Real Estate Group, which he founded in 1994 in Chicago.  It can be seen in a photo captured on Saturday, December 14, 2013 accompanying this article on Moody on the Market.com.
