BBQ Music Fest Approaching

The tantalizing aroma of barbecue wafting anywhere is a delight in it's own right. But, when that aroma mixes with the visual senses of an interactive fountain and the beach nearby, and the aural senses of terrific music and a nearby carousel, you've got the trifecta of BBQ parties right here in Michigan's Great Southwest.

That trifecta will have blues, bluegrass and barbecue fans racing to Whirlpool Centennial Park below the bluff in St. Joseph on Saturday, May 17th for eight solid hours of food, drink, music and fun. Chemical Bank presents the 2nd Annual BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass -- A Taste of Michigan Festival from St. Joseph Today. The event runs from noon until 8pm that day.

Jill Stone is Executive Director of St. Joseph Today. She says, "This will be a great way for families and friends to celebrate spring and kick start beach season." She adds, "Entry is free with a suggested donation of $5, and we'll have lots of drinks and mouthwatering barbecue for purchase. So come on down for an afternoon of fun, rain or shine."

Ron Weimer of Hilliard Lyons is Manager of the Paul & Rose Suchovsky Charitable Trust which sponsors the concert. He tells us, "We are excited to offer a great music venue to the community that will entertain all ages. The four scheduled bands, each with its own brand of music, will really lift your spirits."

Scheduled show times are:

  • 12:15pm -- Slim Gypsy Baggage
  • 2:15pm -- Billy Branch & the Sons of Blues
  • 4:15pm -- Greensky Bluegrass
  • 6:15pm -- Mountain Heart

The beverage tent, sponsored by Bud Distributing, Inc. of Dowagiac, will showcase a variety of local and regional brews, wines and sodas. Food vendors will provide a range of sweet to spicy barbecue offerings to please every palate. BBQ vendors include:

  • Bistro on the Boulevard
  • Charlie's Piggin' N' Grinnin'
  • Coach's Bar & Grill
  • The Brisket Van from Greenbush Brewery
  • Larks Bar-B-Que
  • Piggott's Farm Market & Bakery
  • Silver Beach Pizza

Activities at Silver Beach Center, an amusement venue across the street from Whirlpool Centennial Park, and shops in downtown St. Joseph will augment festival activities.

In addtion to Chemical Bank, Bud Distributing and the Paul & Rose Suchovsky Charitable Trust managed by Hilliard Lyons, Radio Stations WIRX (107.1) and WYTZ (97.5 Y-Country) are event sponsors.
