Record SRPGA Purse Awaits Sunday’s KitchenAid Champion

Champions Tour players will love one major change at this year’s KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship come Sunday afternoon. The richest purse in the history of the event is now in place thanks to the title sponsorship agreement crafted between the PGA of America and the team at KitchenAid.

The Champion will be awarded $585,000 on Sunday evening, his share of the $3,250,000 total purse for the 2018 Championship. Last year’s Champ, Bernhard Langer, earned a paycheck of $540,000.

The enhanced purse is a direct benefit of the title sponsorship agreement which shifted the KitchenAid name up front from earlier years when the event was called the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid. By upgrading to the title sponsorship from a presenting sponsorship, the larger prize pot makes it even more lucrative to hit the links at Harbor Shores and the other courses played during the odd years of the current deal.

That deal has Harbor Shores hosting the Championship not only this year, but again in 2020, 2022 and 2024, a virtually unprecedented run for a golf course that is only 8 years old.

The Championship week is at hand, with a Pro-Am event tomorrow followed by a practice day on Wednesday and four rounds of medal play Thursday through Sunday.

At the time of this morning’s announcement regarding this year’s money, it was also revealed that Steve Flesch from Union, Kentucky is out of the line-up due to an injury and Doug Rohrbaugh of Carbondale, Colorado has been added to the field as a result.
