SJ McDonald’s Slates Grand Re-Opening

The million dollar makeover at McDonald’s in St. Joseph steps into the limelight on May 1st when the restaurant celebrate’s a Grand Re-Opening Celebration and official ribbon cutting ceremony to which the public has been invited.

The team at Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce will host the affair on Tuesday May 1st at 4pm when the crew at the heavily refurbished McDonald’s located at 2820 Niles Avenue in St. Joseph marks the occasion with prize drawings, specials and more.

It’s your chance to get an up close look at the massive remodeling recently completed at the St. Joseph home of the golden arches. Jessica Blumenfeld, Director of Operations for Dawa Enterprises, the company that owns the St. Joseph restaurant, says the new building is “An experience of the future restaurant.”

New features include multiple digital kiosks, a second drive thru lane, new menu items, and a new interactive area for kids that replaced the outdated Play Place. The new digital kiosks will allow customers to avoid waiting in long lines to order their meals at the counter. Instead they will be able to walk to a kiosk, place their order, and go sit down. When their order is ready it will be delivered directly to them by an employee of the restaurant.  The Southtown St. Joseph location re-opened to the public late last month, and has been drawing strong reviews for the new, more modern look.

Seating in the newly renovated restaurant is largely the same capacity at about 90 guests, but the dramatic increase in drive-thru capabilities helps expand that substantially. General Manager Christal Mahoney is proud that her team scored a record 106 cars served in a single one-hour time frame — great for a single lane drive through — but looks forward to the huge increase possible with the two-lane system.

At the Grand Re-Opening celebration, drawings will be held for a Dr. Pepper Bike and four Dr. Pepper Umbrellas, as well as two golf bags. They will also offer up 150 coupons good for a free large drink for a year, and (while supplies last) any kiosk purchase of more than $6 will earn a free dessert offering.

Mahoney is now fielding a team of 75 crew members and ten managers. The franchisee, Estephan Awad, also owns McDonald’s restaurants in Stevensville, Berrien Springs, Bridgman, Buchanan and four stores in South Bend.
