If you’ve been paying attention on your daily commute, you’ve likely noticed a change in the sign out front at Power in Motion Gymnastics. In addition to a stylish new logo for Amber Williams’ rapidly expanding enterprise, there’s a key addition to the name. The new sign tells you that the growing business is now Power in Motion Gymnastics & Dance.

Last fall, Sydney Harner started offering dance classes for all ages starting at three years old and up, but now, as Dance Director for Amber’s operations, Sydney has dramatically enhanced offerings at the newly named business along M-139 in the Scottdale neighborhood of Royalton Township.

After launching a few dance classes last September, and with two new dance studios on the second floor featuring Marley Spring Floors suitable for all types of dance, Sydney is decidedly pumped for the future of the dance programming at Power in Motion. The more than 17,000 square foot facility continues to grow and expand with people, programs, and performance.

Sydney earned her Associate of Arts degree and a Dance Education certificate from Southwestern Michigan College and then advanced to Columbia College of Chicago. She graduated there in May of 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance, with a focus on teaching.

While at Columbia, Sydney studied many modern dance forms as well as both ballet and West African dance. She also had the amazing opportunity to work with a number of professional dance teachers as well as choreographers and dance companies while in Chicago. Power in Motion’s Dance Director even performed on Columbia’s Dance Center stage in both faculty and student works, as well as choreographing her own works that have been performed on the Dance Center stage.

Power in Motion is far from her first experience. She has been teaching dance and choreographing dance routines and shows for many years, including many a routine for local pageants. In fact, this year she choreographed the opening number for the Mr. Blossomtime Pageant on the Mendel Center Main Stage in Benton Harbor.

Sydney tells me she was excited to take up the role of Dance Director at Power in Motion, “Because it’s not only convenient to have one place where you can take dance and gymnastics (or both), but it’s also beneficial for the athletes.” She notes, “Dance and gymnastics go hand-in-hand, and support one another.”

At Power in Motion Gymnastics & Dance Center, located at 3889 M-139 in St. Joseph, Sydney teaches dance to the Gymnastics Competitive Team members, working on ballet technique to help with their body alignment and grace, and to improve the dance skills they perform in their beam and floor routines.

Dance Classes are now open for Fall registration, with Power in Motion offering classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and more. You can sign up right now by clicking the link below:
