For 25 years now the hearty and dedicated volunteers who comprise the animal rescue team known as Animal Aid of Southwest Michigan has been a critical part of the St. Joseph Today Reindog Parade through the central business district of downtown St. Joseph. They've conducted a Christmas Holiday Open House on the day of the quirky, fun parade. This year will be no exception…however…it will be held in a new location for the first time in several years.

For quite a few years the annual open house was held immediately following the parade. That was when the parade's traditional start time was 1pm. For several years, however, the Reindog Parade, which is also the welcome of Santa Claus to the community, has been stepping off at 4pm downtown. As a result of that change, the open house has been held ahead of the parade and that will be the case again this year.

The crew at Animal Aid hopes you will join their 26th Annual Christmas Holiday Open House from noon until 4pm this Saturday, December 3rd before you head to the Reindog Parade. This year, for the first time ever, the Open House will be conducted at the St. Joseph Public Library next to the Boulevard Inn on Lake Boulevard.

Animal Aid activists and volunteers will offer up holiday cake, punch and holiday cheer as well as a place for your family to warm up and meet some of the current foster animals, both dogs and cats, while you shop some scrumptious baked goods and fun stocking stuffers.

Another tradition that returns is the Silent Auction to benefit the unit's emergency rescue fund. There will be gifts for giving to animals and to your friends who own animals. Additionally, they are offering up a small Memory Tree where you can honor a beloved pet's memory.

Animal Aid is a volunteer rescue group which has helped hundreds of dogs and cats locally for more than 35 year.
