Coming up on Tuesday, December 9 and Wednesday, December 10 will be Berrien RESA’s annual Parents as Teachers Holiday Open House.

RESA Superintendent Eric Hoppstock tells us Parents as Teachers serves around 600 children and 300 families each year, providing parents with the support they need to help their children learn.

Parents as Teachers is a program that recognizes the most powerful and influential first teacher that any student has is their parents,” Hoppstock said. “So we support that by developing parents so that they can support their students.”

And they do that through events. Hoppstock says the program enables parents to meet so they can learn from each other.

The Holiday Open House is expected to attract a good crowd.

Families have the opportunity to bring their children up through age five to play games. They have craft stations. They listen to stories. We have a snack for them. Santa will be here. Olaf will be here.”

The event, to be held at the Berrien RESA Administrative Center in Berrien Springs, will be open to anyone who wants to stop in, and registration is not required. It’ll run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the 9th and 10 to 11:30 on the 10th.

Hoppstock says he’s expecting quite the bustling building for the two days of the open house.
