AAA Offers Thanksgiving Travel Tips

Thanksgiving travel will kick into high gear Wednesday as there’s expected to be a 14% increase in travel over last year. Most of the 1.6 million Michigan residents who are traveling are driving, but for those who are flying. AAA of Michigan’s Adrienne Woodland told Michigan News Network she has some advice.

“Definitely be patient,” Woodland said. “Arrive to the airport early so you have plenty of time to get through longer TSA lines and other travel checkpoints. For domestic travel, we suggest that you arrive at least two hours ahead of departure time, and three hours for international travel.”

Woodland also wants to remind you that Thanksgiving is the worst day for residential fires. She says don’t leave food unattended on the stove. If there’s a fire, smother a grease fire with a metal lid or baking soda. Never use water. Make sure to turn off the heat first. If a fire starts in the oven, turn off the heat and keep the oven door closed.
