If you hold tickets on an American Airlines flight out of Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport anytime during October, you might want to launch your search for a replacement air carrier or a different airfield. American has announced they will suspend operations at Kalamazoo in October due to low demand and failure on the part of the federal government to provide additional pandemic relief.

Kalamazoo is one of 15 airports across the nation that will see American Airlines service suspended from October 7th through November 3rd, all of them in small and mid-sized American cities.

The airline’s statement on the matter says, “This is the first step as American continues to evaluate its network and plans for additional schedule changes in the coming weeks.” Additionally, they report that they “will continue to re-assess plans for these and other markets as an extension of the Payroll Support Program (in Congress) remains under deliberation. The full, updated October schedule will be released August 29th, and American anticipates releasing its updated November schedule by late September.”

Here is the list of the markets where American Airlines is suspending service in October:

Airport officials at Kalamazoo/Battle Creek told reporters there that recent passenger travel had begun to rebound, however it was still significantly — some 75-percent — below year ago levels.

The American announcement is a double blow to the airfield in Kalamazoo, inasmuch as United Airlines is still in the middle of a three month hiatus, although they have indicated plans to resume operations on October 1st.
