Bangor Furniture Store Destroyed by Fire For Second Time

When fire destroyed Mim’s Furniture store in the Bangor area on New Years Eve of 2018, the company bounced back remarkably by completely rebuilding and starting anew.

Now, less than two years later, firefighters from six Van Buren County Fire Departments had to be called out to 31375 M-43 in Arlington Township near Bangor, to again deal with what appears to be a repeat total loss of the business.

Firefighters were called out shortly before midnight last night, Monday, March 2nd, 2020, and first responders with met with heavy smoke and fire in the attic of the furniture store.

Water had to be shuttled to the fire scene by tanker trucks due to the location of Mim’s Furniture. Assisting the Bangor Community Firefighting team were departments from Bloomingdale, Columbia, Hartfor, Lawrence and South Haven.

The State Fire Marshal has been requested to conduct an investigation into the cause, according to Bangor Fire Chief Dereck Babcock. The fire remains under investigation on all fronts.
