Benton Harbor’s City Center Lofts Celebrates Completion With Tuesday Ribbon Cutting

Saying that “not even a global pandemic could deter” the project, Cornerstone Alliance President & CEO Rob Cleveland is calling tomorrow’s formal ribbon cutting ceremony for the City Center Lofts project “a great moment for Benton Harbor and all of Berrien County.”

Cleveland’s Cornerstone Alliance team will be joined by Cressy Commercial Real Estate to commemorate the completion of City Center Lofts with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 74 West Main Street in Benton Harbor tomorrow, Tuesday, June 29th, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm including a behind-the-scenes tour of the 20,000 square foot building.

Located at the crossroads corner of Main Street and Pipestone in downtown Benton Harbor, the building was originally constructed in the 1880’s and underwent a remodel in the 1970’s. Public-private partnerships between Cornerstone Alliance, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the City Commission of Benton Harbor, and Cressy Commercial Real Estate resulted in a comprehensive rehabilitation of the structure and its purpose. The building now serves as a mixed-use space and includes two commercial suites and 16 neo-industrial style lofts featuring exposed ductwork, spiral staircases, and 16-foot ceilings. Ranging from studio apartments to one-bedroom apartments with an office, no two lofts are the same in the project.

Cleveland says, “This is a great moment for Benton Harbor, and all of Berrien County. Not even a global pandemic could deter Cressy Commercial Real Estate from a commitment it made to be a part of the residential transformation of downtown Benton Harbor. This project is more than the new investment and more than the 16 families who will call this place home. This is about proving a vision for more urban residences in Benton Harbor, drawing more people in to support the locally-owned businesses throughout Benton Harbor, the Arts District and Harbor Shores areas.”

Cleveland goes on to say, “This project is the culmination of a tremendous amount of collaboration among many different partners. The City of Benton Harbor, the Benton Harbor Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Michigan Strategic Fund, Cressy Commercial Real Estate, the neighboring businesses who have all showed support and patience as the construction was completed, and the many residents and leaders who spoke in favor of this project – all of these groups are responsible for 16 new apartments and new commercial space in downtown Benton Harbor.”
