A Benton Harbor auto repair shop owner was gunned down tonight at or near his place of business, and police are tracking the man who shot him and then ran away.

Benton Harbor Public Safety Deputy Director Michael Clark says his unit was dispatched to the intersection of Main & McCord in the city at approximately 6:30pm this evening to investigate a reported shooting incident there. Upon arrival they discovered 38 year old Dondrell Blackamore of Benton Harbor who had been wounded by gunfire.

Blackamore owns and operates M&M Garage, an automotive repair shop, at that intersection. He was taken to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph for treatment of gunshot wounds while police are searching for the gunman who perpetrated the attack.

Authorities say that the attacker was a black male dressed in black clothing. He reportedly escaped the scene on foot heading east. Police say that a burgundy minivan in the area at the time of the shooting might also be related or connected to the shooting incident and they are interested in anyone with information on that vehicle as well.
