When does a $5,000 donation turn magically into $15,000 minutes after it has been made? The answer is when the original donation is made to the new Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan’s Yeager Family Pet Shelter.

Such is the case in recent days when the Benton Harbor-Fairplain Lions Club announced a donation of $5,000 to the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan and it immediately qualified for an ongoing $700,000 two-for-one Yeager Challenge Grant, which means that the Humane Society will receive a total of $15,000 from that original donation. The original $5,000 from the Benton Harbor-Fairplain Lions Club Foundation and $5,000 in matching funds from the grant will go to the Humane Society’s Capital Building Fund, with an additional $5,000 in matching funds going to the Humane Society’s Endowment Fund.

The Benton Harbor-Fairplain Lions Club serves the communities of Benton Harbor and Benton Township, helping those in need with vision care and hearing assistance.  Anyone interested in learning more about the Benton Harbor-Fairplain Lion’s Club can visit http://bentonharbor.fairplainlions.com or contact bhfplions@sbcglobal.net.

Meanwhile, the Humane Society reminds everyone that they will hold their Annual “Holiday Open House For the Animals” onSaturday, December 8th, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, at the shelter. A raffle will be offered, and gifts of dog and cat food and supplies, as well as monetary donations, will be gratefully accepted by the shelter.  Anyone interested in learning more about the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan Yeager Family Pet Shelter, or donating to the Capital Building Fund, can visit http://www.humanesocietyswm.org.
