Bidding Denise Farewell

The outpouring of love and affection, mixed with grief and mourning, continues following the tragic death of broadcast legend and breast cancer advocate Denise Bohn of St. Joseph. Her brutal murder at the hands of her own husband earlier this week has been shared tens of thousands of times from as close as her hometown of Millburg to as far away as the Daily Mail of London. Even People Magazine picked up her story in light of her three young children left in the aftermath.

First Church of God in St. Joseph will likely be filled to capacity Sunday evening with her family, friends, colleagues, co-workers, and even strangers who didn't know her personally but have been touched in some way by the amazing life that she led in Michigan's Great Southwest.

The funeral will take place at the church on Niles Avenue in St. Joseph Sunday evening at 6pm, with visitation beginning four hours earlier at 2pm there. A GoFundMe online campaign has already raised more than $27,000.00 for the children left behind, and can be found by clicking this link: http://www.gofundme.com/4mzwd2as

Earlier this week, I shared a small slice of her life's story on the Moody in the Morning radio broadcast on WSJM 94.9 in St. Joseph where we worked together off and on for more than 20-years. While WSBT Television from South Bend, where she also served a long stint as a TV Reporter, was in the house that morning, they shared only a small slice of my comments, and many who missed the broadcast have asked if there was any way to hear the complete message. There is, and I share it with you here now:

Speaking on behalf of my colleagues here at Mid-West Family Broadcasting, we'd like to sincerely thank the entire community for their overwhelming love and support this week in so many ways, from the impromptu luncheon, to multiple floral arrangements, from the simple (but HUGE) box of donuts, to the hand-crafted prayer messages from school children, it has been an incredible week. Your messages, cards, notes, gifts and even bereavement counseling and beyond will never be forgotten. We appreciate you more than you can ever know.
