Bridgman Public Library Announces New Director

Beginning September 1st, 2022, the position of Library Director at the Bridgman Public Library will be filled by new shoes, as the board of trustees announces and welcomes Sarah Skinner to the community.

“I am honored to be chosen as the next Director of the Bridgman Public Library,” Ms. Skinner says. “Bridgman is a lovely city and I am excited to be here. As a native of West Michigan, I look forward to helping the library develop its vision of the future and making a positive impact on the Bridgman community.”

New Director, Sarah Skinner

Sarah comes to the Bridgman Public Library from the Niles District Library, where she served in several positions for the past six years, most recently as Adult Services Team Leader. She has strong experience in creating programs, collections development, and computing, among other areas. She received her undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, and her Master of Library and Information Science from Valdosta State University in Georgia.

President of the Bridgman Public Library Board of Trustees, Edward Valauskas, says “We look forward to Sarah moving the Bridgman Public Library in new and exciting directions, strengthening connections to our diverse communities. Ms. Skinner will improve our relationships with schools in Bridgman and enhance our work with patrons in Bridgman, as well as in Lake and Chikaming Townships.”

Libraries are essential, helpful, and important, and offer many programs and events to the communities in which they serve. The Bridgman Public Library, along with being a gateway to the entire world of information, hosts Movie Mondays for children and teens, offers STEAM activities for toddlers, presents story times throughout the month, and so much more.

“The Board of Trustees of the Bridgman Public Library is grateful for the continued support of the city of Bridgman and its citizens,” says the BPL. “On August 2, this support was expressed in a renewal for an existing library millage, approved by over 77 percent of the voters.”

Welcome and greet Sarah into her new position as she begins next month— the Bridgman Public Library is located at 4460 Lake Street, and is open Monday through Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. Find more information about programs and offerings at bridgmanlibrary.com. Congratulations, Sarah!
