Bridgman School Chief Peters Gets Top Reviews

With his great collaboration with the manufacturing industry across Southwest Michigan, the business community will be pleased to hear the news today that Bridgman Public Schools Superintendent Shane Peters has garnered a three year extension on his current contract through June of 2021.

Peters received a highly effective rating during his annual performance review with the Bridgman Board of Education. The Bridgman Public Schools continue to score above both the Berrien County and State of Michigan averages in English Language Arts and Math. Bridgman students that took the spring 2018 M-STEP assessment in ELA and Match scored above both the state and county averages for percentages in proficiency. Bridgman students that also took the spring 2018 SAT assessment in English Language Arts and Match also scored above the state and county averages.

During the 2017/2018 school year, many expansions and new learning opportunities were added to benefit student achievement. A new position of Literacy Specialist and a new literacy program were added at Bridgman Elementary School. A new “Reading Plus” program was instituted into the English Language Arts classes at F.C. Reed Middle School. Bridgman High School added a fifth year of Spanish opportunity and entered the Whirlpool Innovation Challenge for Marketing and Business students. Those are just a few examples of the many new opportunities started at Bridgman Public Schools under the guidance of Peters.

The Board says Superintendent Peters continues to be an active member of the community and continues to expand relationships with local businesses and community leaders in an effort to increase vocational job opportunities for Bridgman students. He is also a member of many local service clubs such as the Bridgman Community Growth Alliance, Bridgman Foundation for Educational Excellence, Lory’s Place Board of Directors and the Lakeshore Rotary Club.

Board members also recognize that Peters continues to look for new opportunities to enhance student achievement and growth. The graduation rate for Bridgman Public Schools continues to remain above state and county averages. The student attendance rate is also above 90-percent at all three school buildings in the community.

The Bridgman Board of Education has voiced pride in the Bridgman Public Schools performance and the community support so readily evident in town that they enjoy daily. The thanked Peters for his continued service, dedication and leadership of the Bridgman Public Schools, and say they are excited about the continued expansions and new learning opportunities that will be added in the years ahead.
