Citgo Robbery Unrelated to Beach Incident

Perhaps the thief knew that police resources were being directed to the waterfront last evening, or more than likely it was sheer coincidence, however, St. Joseph Township Police say that a robbery at the Citgo Pri Mart center at Hilltop & Washington Avenues in Southtown St. Joseph was "an isolated incident" and unrelated to the reports of gunfire being exchanged at roughly the same moment in time at Silver Beach County Park.

Social media was rampant on several fronts last night with speculation that the two incidents were linked, with no proof of any sort to even begin to make the connection.

St. Joseph Township Police say that the incident at the Citgo service station and convenience store at 2080 Washington Avenue, a Pri Mart Quik Shop, occurred when a man entered the store and while the clerk was not looking was able to access the cash register and open it. He was apparently successful in grabbing a small amount of cash from the register before leaving the scene.

Authorities say that the clerk was not threatened in any way, nor even aware of the incident until moments after it happened. No weapon was shown in the theft. They say that the investigation is ongoing and ask for anyone familiar with the incident to contact their office at 429-6890.
