Coloma Public Library Offers Summer Lunch Program

This Summer, the Coloma Public Library has partnered with Coloma Community Schools and the Department of Education to provide free lunch to children and teens under the age of 18, and for special needs individuals under the age of 26. The Meet Up and Eat Up Summer Food Service program will be available from June 13th through August 5th at 151 W. Center Street in Coloma.

Available Monday through Friday from 11:30am – 11:50am, visitors will be provided a lunch to be eaten on location, and invited to participate in the 2022 Summer Reading Program, complete with fun activities and prizes. Weather permitting, lunch will be served picnic-style outside, and in the Community Room on rainy days. The Coloma Public Library has so much to offer to eager minds, including STEAM kits, educational game tables, playaways, and more.

Library Director Mary Harrison says, “No sign ups are required to participate in this program! It is coordinated by the public schools so that kids who receive subsidized lunches during the year can continue to receive them in the summer. Our library will be one of the locations in Coloma.” This federally-funded lunch program does not require a Coloma Public Library card for participation, though everyone is welcome to inquire about signing up for one.

The Coloma Public Library began as a volunteer-run Self Culture Club in 1902, and was deemed a public library in 1964. It has since grown into the place of community, extended learning, and culture, for which it is known today.
