Real Men Wear Pink, and the crew at Four Winds Casinos really stepped things up helping to raise $10-Grand for the Kelly Cares Foundation as a result of their breast cancer awareness employee fundraiser.
During the month of October, The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians’ Four Winds Casinos employees participated in a breast cancer awareness-themed pumpkin decorating contest, raising money for the Kelly Cares Foundation. Four Winds provided pumpkins for participating employees to decorate, and then employees voted for their favorite pumpkins with donations made via payroll deduction. Each Four Winds Casino had first- through fifth-place winners with various prizes. In just under a month, employees raised nearly $7,600 and the casino added more than $2,000 to present a check for $10,000 to Paqui Kelly.
Scott Brewers is Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, Community Relations and Security at Four Winds Casinos. He says, “We are proud to see this come together,” and adds, “The friendly competition and creativity are amazing, but the way our employees get behind these fundraisers is what makes this so great.”
This is not the first fundraiser of its kind, either. Four Winds has previously held similar competitions to raise funds for other not-for-profit organizations including the LOGAN Center, American Heart Association, Susan G. Komen and the American Red Cross following Hurricane Maria.
The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians’ sovereignty was reaffirmed under legislation signed into law by President Clinton in September of 1994. They are dedicated to providing community development initiatives such as housing, education, family services, medical care and cultural preservation for its approximately 5,000 citizens. The Pokagon Band’s ten-county service area includes four counties in Southwestern Michigan and six in Northern Indiana.
The main administrative offices are located in Dowagiac, with a satellite office in South Bend. In 2007, they opened Four Winds Casino Resort in New Buffalo, followed by Four Winds Hartford in 2011 and Four Winds Dowagiac in 2013. Four Winds South Bend opened earlier this year on January 16, 2018.
