Great Lakes Surf Luau Coming

There's no better way to cap a stellar summer of waterfront fun than with a full on luau. Our friends at Third Coast Surf Shop certainly recognize the value of quality time on the water and they hope you'll check in with them for their 12th Annual Great Lakes Surf Luau coming next Saturday, August 20th at Jean Klock Beach in Benton Harbor. It's all free and it's family-friendly.

The festivities begin at 4pm and will conclude with a 9:15pm outdoor showing of Jeremy Rumas’ surf documentary “Hangs Upon Nothing.” Throughout the event, everyone can take part in an informal swap meet, where you are welcome to buy or sell used surf gear and related items. Third Coast will provide a barbecue main dish for a potluck-style meal, available on a first come, first serve basis. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share.

The highlight of the evening will be live performances by local stalwarts Slim Gypsy Baggage and the Grand Rapids-based band The Concussions, who put a modern spin on 1960s instrumental surf music. The Luau will also feature a raffle for prizes including a Third Coast surfboard and a wetsuit. Raffle tickets and limited-edition Luau t-shirts will be on sale during the event.

In addition, from Friday, August 19 through Sunday, August 21, Third Coast Surf Shop’s St. Joseph store, located at 212 State Street, will offer a Luau sale. Customers will receive a free Rareform surfboard bag with every surfboard purchase. All wetsuits will also be 25-percent off during the weekend.
