Hagar Township Reopens Paw Paw River Water Trail Kayak Launch for the Season

Calling it “Berrien County’s Most Fun Township of Hagar,” Peter Colovos, a Hagar Township Trustee, has announced this morning that his community’s world class kayak launch along Coloma Road, across from the Coloma/St. Joseph KOA Holiday Campground, is back in service for the season.

Colovos says, “The Paw Paw River is open for fun and paddling,” and adds, “We welcome the rest of the county and surrounding communities to experience the beauty and natural setting of the Paw Paw River Water Trail.”

Access to the Paw Paw River Water Trail can be accommodated at several points along the beautiful 68 mile water trail, and you can find the entire route and additional information online at this link:

Additionally, the Paw Paw River communities have actively come together and are coordinating a river cleanup of fallen trees for kayak and canoe navigation purposes. Colovos tells us, “Once river levels come down to approximately 6-feet, crews will be out on the river working on the cleanup. Until that time only certain sections of the river are open. Once cleanup is complete, navigation to the Twin Cities inner harbor will be possible.”

You can find current river levels and monitored them at the link below:

Colovos and his colleagues at Hagar Township invite everyone to “Come out and enjoy the jewel the Paw Paw River Water Trail truly is…and of course Hagar Township, the county’s epicenter of outdoor recreational fun.”
