High Praise, Extended Contract for LSHS Super

Looks like the Lakeshore Board of Education is pretty pleased with the work of their Superintendent. In fact, not only have they rated his work as "Highly Effective," they have extended his contract through June of 2019. That's the Cliff Notes version of the board's evaluation of Superintendent Phillip Freeman.

During the evaluation of Freeman's leadership in the public school district, school board members praised his "ability to create a true team environment by fostering positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, parents and the community." Among his many accomplishments, they highlight his key role in updating the strategic plan and rolling out a new marketing campaign, both of which provide a consistent direction for the entire district. Freeman was also recognized for collaborating with faculty and staff to increase student achievement by developing and implementing new programs and curriculum.

In addition, Freeman has caught the attention of the community by enthusiastically attending a wide range of school events and engaging with people throughout the district.

Mark Whitwam is President of the Lakeshore Board of Education. He says, “The Board of Education has reviewed Phil’s performance and we have found him to be Highly Effective in all areas.” He goes on to say, “We are very pleased with his performance since he has been here and we are excited to work with Phil, the staff and the community as we continue to strive for excellence in all that we do, starting with the District Strategic Plan.”

Freeman was hired as Lakeshore’s superintendent in November 2013, after serving as assistant superintendent of Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. For his part, Freeman says, “I am honored to work with an outstanding team of professionals who deserve credit for the great things happening in Lakeshore Public Schools.”  He points out, “While this evaluation has my name on it, it carries the mark of the employees in the District who exemplify our commitment to excellence.”

On Monday, May 9th, the Lakeshore Board of Education acted to extend Freeman’s contract through June of 2019.
