While you can’t buy a new Mazda at 2712 Niles Avenue in St. Joseph anymore, you can certainly obtain funding for one at that location. The longtime home to Siemans Mazda was officially christened in ribbon cutting ceremonies during the lunch hour today for the new St. Joseph branch of Honor Credit Union. Siemans Mazda consolidated operations to the auto dealers Bridgman campus last year, paving the way for a brand new building at their old site in the Southtown neighborhood of St. Joseph, and they celebrated in style with today’s big event.

The new Honor Credit Union branch has actually been open for business for several weeks now, but today’s formal ceremonies with staff, board members, customers, friends and community leaders mark a new era for the team who moved from their former site several blocks away on Lakeview Avenue when that building was no longer needed following relocation of corporate headquarters to Berrien Springs. The old building becomes a part of the Region IV Area on Aging campus as a result of the new structure.

The modern new 6,000 square foot credit union is a dramatic upgrade for St. Joe branch staff members and clients. In addition to being far more convenient for customers, the expansion provides additional drive-thru capabilities and up-to-date technology in a comfortable and welcoming setting for those conducting their financial business with the team.

Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce officials orchestrated today’s ribbon cutting celebration, as Honor CEO Scott MacFarland welcomed everyone to the facility and applauded the work of architect Jeff Klymson of Collective Office, and lead contractor E.C. Moore, while thanking his board of directors for the vision and foresight to continue to advance the opportunities of the institution.

Tanya Urias is the St. Joseph Branch Manager for Honor Credit Union. She addressed today’s ceremonies saying, “Continuing to serve the St. Joe community is a privilege.” She pointed to “The overwhelming positive response and energy of our members to the new more convenient location,” adding that it has been “really rewarding for the St. Joe team to experience.”

MacFarland applauded the “spectacular cooperation” from St. Joseph City Manager John Hodgson and the city commission and staff. Representing the city, Commissioner and former-Mayor Mary Goff noted that the city talks a lot about business retention, adding people don’t realize how important that is, and she applauded Honor for choosing St. Joe instead of any of a number of other places they could have gone.

MacFarland says, “The team at Siemans had many successful years here, and it’s great that we are able to rejuvenate the property and continue the success, God-willing, at this great location on Niles Avenue. We don’t take it for granted, we love being here, love the opportunity, and appreciate those who have turned out here today.” Scott introduced the crowd to a large contingent of his associates, but singled one out for special recognition — his wife Beth and asked everybody to wish her a Happy Birthday, as she celebrates that occasion today as well.

Honor Credit Union now serves more than 65,000 members across the State of Michigan, armed with a mission and vision of “providing solutions for financial success and giving back to the communities we serve.” For more information call 800.442.2800, or visit www.honorcu.com
