Household Chemical & Electronics Recycling This Weekend in New Buffalo

Now that we’ve been released from quarantine, your delayed spring cleaning process of purging the garage, basement or backyard of unwanted items is at hand thanks to the next recycling event from the Berrien County Parks & Recreation Department.

Jill Adams, Environmental Property Manager for the Berrien County Parks & Recreation Department says we can all properly recycle and dispose of household chemical waste and home electronic equipment this Saturday, June 13th at the New Buffalo Township Fire Station, located at 17655 Clay Street.

The community recycling event runs from 9 am – 1 pm that day, and is designed as a drive-thru only version, and you must remain in your vehicle at all times. Fees and donations will be collected first, so you are asked to have your payment ready. Next, Electronics will be unloaded. The last thing to be unloaded will be household chemicals in the drive-thru process. Organizers are asking you to please pack your vehicle accordingly for easy unloading in that staged manner.

Accepted items include most household and garage chemicals and cleaners; pills, sharps and other home medical waste; batteries of all sizes; and electronics.

There is a fee of $20 per television and $10 per computer monitor, however all other items are accepted at no cost to residents of Berrien County. Donations are accepted and appreciated to help cover other collection costs.

This event is for Berrien County residents only. Waste from businesses and institutions will not be accepted at the County’s household collections. Also not accepted is Latex Paint. Do not bring latex paint to this collection event. Latex paint can be dried out and placed in with routine curbside trash.
