Jean Klock Park Concession Stand to Open This Season

We look forward to sunny, Summer beach days all year— swimming for hours and hours, through the hottest part of the day, until our stomachs grumble in search of sustenance. This year, while spending the best days at Jean Klock Park, you won’t have to pack up the family and leave for snacks: Licks Sweet Treats & Eats has taken up residence in the concession stand on location, and is excited to serve beach goers all season.

Licks Sweet Treats & Eats is ready to provide the perfect summer foods from lunchtime until dusk, at what owner Dan Leung calls ‘the best kept secret in Southwest Michigan’. “Jean Klock Park is the best public beach in our area. It is family-friendly, has a huge parking lot, and is definitely a weekend beach,” Dan says.

Dan’s company has operated many beach concession stands in the past, filling hungry bellies at New Buffalo Beach last year, and at Warren Dunes for four years before that. This is a big deal for the area— Jean Klock Park has been without concessions for the past six years, and having refreshments available at the beach will keep patrons there later, allowing them to enjoy every last drop of Summer.

The menu is easily described as ‘simple and delicious’, offering the ever-popular 7 ounce Bavarian pretzels (cheese-filled or not), Red Hot Chicago hot dogs, and perfect frozen treats like Dippin’ Dots, Italian ice, and novelty ice creams. The grand opening of Licks Sweet Treats & Eats at Jean Klock Park will happen Memorial Day Weekend, while Berrien County is packed with beginning-of-summer vacationers, and those attending the KitchenAid Senior PGA.

To start the season, as this amenity is so new to beach goers, Dan will only have one or two staff members, and will be looking to hire available and interested people as soon as possible. The current plan is for the concession stand to be open seven days a week, from ‘lunch until dusk’, but you can stay up to date with the hours and menu options by following Licks Sweet Treats & Eats on Instagram or Facebook. Dan is friendly, outgoing, and excited about this new venture, and we offer our Congrats and Welcome!
