Kinexus Maintains Best in the U.S. Rankings for 2nd Year Running

Anytime you can boast four of your teammates are members of an exclusive group like the 40 Under 40 for Southwest Michigan, you know that you’ve got a good shot at retaining your place among the Best Nonprofits To Work For in all of America. Such is the case for the dynamic team of change agents at Kinexus, headquartered in downtown Benton Harbor.

Kinexus has been named one of the 2018 Best Nonprofits To Work For in the nation for the second year in a row, as the Nonprofit Times has partnered with Best Companies Group to identify nonprofit organizations that have excelled in creating quality workplaces for employees.

The survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the top 50 employers in the nonprofit industry, benefiting the industry’s economy, workforce and businesses.

Nonprofits from across the United States entered the two-part survey process to determine Best Nonprofits To Work For. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated organization’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. That part of the process was worth approximately 25-percent of the total evaluation.

The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. That part of the process was worth approximately 75-percent of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top nonprofits and the final ranking. The Best Companies Group’s Employer Benchmark Report tracked positive responses — “agree somewhat” or “agree strongly” — to 85 questions across eight categories.

The team at Kinexus was rated 33rd overall in the Top 50, down slightly from their rank at 28th last year, but jumped to 18th when rated among their peer group in the Medium Sized Organizations category, as compared to their rank of 15th last year.

Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process, analyzed the data and determined the ranking. Best Nonprofits scored at least an average of 90-percent in six or more of the categories below.

To be considered for this award, organizations were evaluated by the following criteria:

  • Leadership and planning
  • Corporate culture and communications
  • Pay and benefits
  • Training, development and resources
  • Overall employee engagement
  • Role satisfaction
  • Work environment
  • Relationship with supervisor

Todd Gustafson is CEO at Kinexus. He says, “We are excited and honored to be recognized nationally for our culture and talent again by the prestigious Nonprofit Times.” He adds, “We believe in creating an innovative culture that attracts and retains talent. Then we can solve the complex and challenging issues affecting our communities across our region and state. In today’s age, regardless of industry, culture makes the difference between success and struggle.”

Public announcement of the entire list and rankings of the annual Best Nonprofits To Work For was published by The Nonprofit Times yesterday, April 2, 2018.

Just last month four members of the Kinexus team were named to the Moody on the Market inaugural 40 Under 40 recognition including: Josh Cosner, Kristin Harrington, Dan Peat and Jamie Quigno. They will all be feted next week at a cocktail reception and awards ceremony marking their selection with 36 others in the community of Michigan’s Great Southwest.
