Krasl To Host American Society Of Marine Artists North Juried Exhibition

The Krasl Art Center is preparing a busy fall with two new exhibits. The Krasl has put together a slate of programs for October and November, and has released the following:

Krasl Art Center (KAC) welcomes two new exhibitions just in time for Autumn! From October 9 through November 28, experience The American Society of Marine Artists North Juried Regional Exhibition in KAC’s main galleries and the butterfly, the flying fish and the hurricane in the artlab. Both exhibitions are free & open to the public, and have multiple ways to engage with the artwork on view during upcoming programs.

The American Society of Marine Artists (The Society) and KAC are pleased to present the 2021 North Juried Regional Exhibition. The Society is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to recognize, encourage, and promote marine art and maritime history. Our community’s rich artistic legacy and connection to Lake Michigan make KAC an ideal venue to highlight the 2021 exhibition.

Artworks are selected by three jurors, all fellows of The Society. The exhibition features 50 paintings/works on paper and 12 sculptures. All artworks exemplify excellence and mastery of both the medium and subject matter and have been made in the past five years.

In KAC’s artlab, explore a 20-foot-long accordion book telling the dramatic tale of a butterfly’s journey of forgotten beauty with an underlying evil. Reflecting a two-year collaboration between artists Andrea Peterson (LaPorte, IN) and Mary Uthuppurru (Bloomington, IN), every element of the book was painstakingly rendered by hand, relaying a story in both process and narrative of intense respect for the environment.

Krasl Art Center 2021 Exhibition Sponsors are 98.3 The Coast, Starks Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, TCF Bank, Boulevard Inn and Bistro, Art FX, Kruggel Lawton CPA’s, The John Devries Insurance Agency, Silver Beach Pizza, & Vail Rubber Works, Inc.

Celebrate both exhibitions on Friday, October 8 during a preview evening filled with activities for all. At 5:30 PM, artlab artists Andrea Peterson and Mary Uthuppurru present the butterfly, the flying fish and the hurricane and their collaborative process behind the work. From 6 – 8 PM, enjoy the preview party, complete with an interactive knot-tying project, cash bar, and live music.

The event does not stop there! Join KAC’s staff as we head over to The GhostLight Theatre for the return of an in-person PechaKucha event. Learn more and secure your $10 ticket at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pecha-kucha-night-tickets-170340212160
