Lake Effect Jazz Big Band To Perform This Month At Box Factory

The Lake Effect Jazz Big Band is slated to perform a concert at the Box Factory for the Arts in St. Joseph this month. The band wants to thank the venue for allowing it to use its space for rehearsals over the summer. The Box Factory for the Arts has released the following:

On September 25th at 7 p.m., the Lake Effect Jazz Big Band will perform a “thank you” concert at the Box Factory for the Arts, 1101 Broad Street. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The concert is a thank you from the band members for the Box Factory’s donation of weekly rehearsal space. Proceeds from the concert’s ticket sales will be donated to the Box Factory.

“We look forward to doing this performance and especially as a benefit for the Box Factory and to express our great appreciation for use of this summer’s rehearsal space,” said Brad Jensen, band manager.

General admission tickets are $10 per person. Reserved seating at small tables will be available at $15 per person for the concert. Light snacks and a cash bar will be available for this concert.

Guest vocalists to be featured at the concert are Rebecca Derbas (Becky) Selvidge and Andrew Fisher.

Fisher is fresh off his September 14th performance with “Fly Me to the Moon” at the Mendel Center. Fisher also leads his own Andrew Fisher Quartet and is a vocal instructor at the Citadel Dance and Music Center in Benton Harbor.

Becky Selvidge is the vocal music instructor for Coloma Public Schools and has appeared with the LEFBB for the past 5 years. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Choral Education from Western Michigan University and a Certificate of Musical Theatre Performance from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York.

Now in its 21st year, the Lake Effect Jazz Big Band (LEJBB) is committed to preserving the uniquely American art form of big band jazz in concerts and jazz festival settings across Southwest Michigan. The band is led by Steven L. Reed, retired instrumental music teacher for the St. Joseph Public Schools, where he taught jazz ensemble, orchestra, and band for 35 years. Several members of LEJBB are current or retired music educators.
